Friends, the unofficial motto of the United States Postal Service says it all.
“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds…”
Even in the midst of a global pandemic, USPS workers are continuing to deliver crucial items like prescription drugs and household goods to families across the country. And unlike private corporations like UPS and FedEx, the USPS is required to serve every address in the United States, no matter how remote.
This is dangerous, essential work. The USPS says nearly 500 postal workers have tested positive for the coronavirus, with more than 6,000 in self-quarantine due to exposure.
But rather than stepping up to support these frontline workers, President Trump has blocked relief funding for the Postal Service. Without financial assistance, this vital institution will be forced to shut down -- sign on to call on this administration to provide emergency funding for the USPS immediately >>
The collapse of the USPS would be disastrous for our democracy -- mail-in voting and census operations depend upon its services.
We must speak out against this administration’s reckless actions.
