In the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, a mere 85 miles from PA-01, New York City police officers attempted to raid a gay bar and harass the patrons. But what was different this time is that the patrons fought back.
The Stonewall Uprising is considered the spark of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.
In the 55 years since, we've seen major strides – electing openly LGBTQ+ elected officials, allowing service members to serve openly, and winning the freedom to marry. It is progress that has been hard fought, but it is also in danger of being rolled back.
We've seen Republicans target LGBTQ+ kids, MAGA Justice Clarence Thomas propose allowing the government to jail people for being gay, and a man who built his career working for homophobic hate groups get elected to Speaker of the House.
Republicans like Brian Fitzpatrick don't want to just take us back a decade to before gay and lesbian couples could get married… they want to take us back to June 27, 1969.
I fought for the freedom of EVERY American in the Army, and I refuse to watch those freedoms be stripped away by Brian Fitzpatrick, Mike Johnson, and the rest of MAGA.
I will stand 10-toes-down for the LGBTQ+ community in Congress – I just need your help to get there. Will you pitch in $10 or more before June is over?
