Dear Friend,
Have you ever had to move? Not because you wanted to, but because you had to? In my work with immigrants, I have heard many harrowing stories: *Mohammed, who left his home in Guinea and traveled through South America in search of safety for his family; *Juana, who left her home in Ecuador when the violence in her community became too much to bear. That’s why I hope you will join this month’s matching gift challenge for AFSC’s Refugee Response Fund.
I have also been impressed with the strength, fortitude, and love that helps people make their way toward safety and rebuild their lives. The volunteers passing food through the wall at the U.S.-Mexico border. The agricultural workers organizing for fair treatment and basic rights. The response networks coming together to welcome families and help them resettle and reunite.
I hope you have not had to leave your home in the dark of night, cope with a sudden large-scale disaster, or grapple with where to go when no place feels safe. But if you have or if you ever do, I want to live in a world where you can count on being treated with dignity, kindness, and respect. That’s the world we’re working for.
And it’s what your donation helps make possible in communities across the U.S. and around the globe. Please help with a generous donation today. In peace, Amy Gottlieb U.S. Just Migration Director *Names have been changed. |
