The Irish Catholic Bishops have just released a very touching and informative short film on palliative care and end of life issues, called 'Through the Valley'. It’s well worth watching and sharing.

** From unplanned pregnancy to mother’s “dream come true”

This beautiful video has to date received over 1.7 million views on social media. It tells one mother’s story, from the initial shock of her unplanned pregnancy to the indescribable joy she experienced after the birth of her baby daughter.

It’s so sad the way the abortion industry and far too many of our politicians promote the fast tracking of abortion before mothers are given the chance to think through the consequences and irrevocable reality of abortion.

** Abortions in Northern Ireland rise by almost 25% in one year
------------------------------------------------------------

The latest figures released by the Department of Health in Northern Ireland show that abortions there increased by almost 25% in the last year.

Abortion was imposed on Northern Ireland in 2019 by the UK government. The number of abortions has steadily increased since the law changed. Between 2021–2022, there were 1,755 abortions. Between 2022–2023, 2,168 abortions took place, an increase of 23.5% compared to the previous 12 months.

To date, 5,497 unborn babies have had their lives ended through abortion since the new law came into force.

The figures are further proof that the legalisation of abortion increases dramatically the number of abortions that occur. Abortion supporters pretend otherwise when campaigning to legalise it, then conveniently run for cover with the assistance of the media once abortion is introduced and the numbers start rising. It's worth bringing these facts to the attention of our friends who perhaps remain sceptical about some of the claims and counterclaims made in the abortion debate.

** Gino Kenny introduces new assisted suicide/euthanasia Bill
------------------------------------------------------------

On Tuesday in the Dáil, Gino Kenny TD introduced a new pro-euthanasia bill called the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2024. The Bill adopts some of the recommendations from the report of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Assisted Dying that, if given effect, would open the door to euthanasia in Ireland, without any of the “safeguards” that Deputy Kenny and fellow campaigners keep referring to.

Contrary to the belief that any such legislation could be confined to limited situations, expert evidence presented to the Joint Committee on Assisted Dying from various Irish medical organisations and palliative care specialists suggested otherwise.

In Canada, for example, euthanasia has been gradually expanded beyond initially limited categories on the basis of the principle of equality. This has resulted in a situation where currently 4.1% of all deaths in Canada are a result of the Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) law.

In 2020, Gino Kenny’s previous pro-euthanasia bill passed at Second Stage in the Dáil by 81 votes to 71. It was stopped, however, from progressing to a final vote by the Oireachtas Committee on Justice.

We’ll need to work even harder this time round to ensure Deputy Kenny’s latest life-ending bill is roundly defeated and that an alternative plan of strengthening and developing the provision of palliative care in Ireland is moved forward instead.

Tickets are now available for the eighth annual Ceiliúradh Cois Life Dinner for Pro-Life Education which will take place on Friday, 20th September 2024 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

We are very pleased to announce that the guest speaker at this year's dinner will be former minister for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton.

CEO of Vulcan Consulting, Lucinda Creighton is hugely admired and respected, across the political spectrum, for the courageous and principled way she opposed abortion legislation in the Dáil, sacrificing her position as a minister in the process.

It promises to be an unforgettable evening with excellent food, live music, and an opportunity for attendees to connect with friends and fellow supporters of the pro-life movement.
