Our grassroots campaign of 192 volunteers turned in nearly 14,000 petition signatures to the Secretary of State’s office on March 17th. This is truly what democracy looks like. One-on-one engagement with voters to give our candidates access to the ballot for June’s primary.

We faced a lot of obstacles to meet the already lofty and highly restrictive benchmark of 10,500 signatures statewide. Snowfall was 16% above average in the mountains and 31% above average east of the Continental Divide. Volunteers experienced broken bones, loss of loved ones, and many sick-days due to the weather.

Furthermore, five other candidates were collecting signatures, while voters could only sign one candidate’s petition. Our campaign manager had a baby. And of course, the Coronavirus outbreak was deemed a state of emergency, resulting in our State Legislature amending the Assembly process for getting on the ballot, while leaving petition requirements untouched.

Yet we still turned in nearly 14,000 signatures with a paid staff of only three people. That is so remarkable that it’s the first time in Colorado’s history to happen. I couldn’t be more proud!

We need your help more than ever now, because despite achieving the nearly impossible, we still have more obstacles to overcome.

On Monday, the SoS plans to issue a statement of insufficiency because they are only counting 9,427 of our signatures as valid. At that same time, our 5 day protest period begins, allowing us to review and validate the signatures.

We still have two more opportunities to get on the ballot and we’re going to need everyone’s help to get us there!

There are over 1,700 signatures that couldn’t be verified for one reason or another, which we will review and verify by Friday. If we’ve still fallen short, we will challenge the ruling in court due to the unprecedented state of emergency order, coupled with the legislature’s and governor’s failure to act on behalf of the health and safety of our canvassers and the voters of Colorado.

We are so fortunate to have a lawyer who will try our case on the cheap, but we still face potential filing fees upwards of $1,000. We also have our staff continuing voter outreach and maintaining our shift to a 100% virtual campaign. We can still win this with your help!
