John,

I’m thrilled to share some incredible news with you!

In California, Big Oil has withdrawn its ballot measure challenging a landmark law establishing a 3,200-foot public health and safety setback zone to safeguard homes, schools, and hospitals from the harms of new oil drilling.

This is a monumental victory. Big Oil, despite spending tens of millions, backed away before the people of California could reject them at the ballot box. When they saw they were up against the grassroots power of activists like you, they decided to leave the arena.

This success is thanks to the unwavering dedication of many, particularly the frontline communities who have borne the brunt of the oil industry's pollution and have tirelessly advocated to remove dirty oil drilling from their backyards. And it exemplifies the work you power by being an activist with Food & Water Watch.

While we celebrate this victory, we must keep the momentum going to continue efforts to eliminate toxic oil drilling and fossil fuel infrastructure from our neighborhoods nationwide. Tell Congress our future must be fracking-free.

This victory proves that we don’t want dangerous, polluting oil rigs near our homes, schools, or hospitals. We will not sacrifice our communities any longer.

Together, we're taking on neighborhood drilling, working to shut down fossil fuel infrastructure, and fighting false climate solutions. Let’s continue to fight for a cleaner, healthier future for all.

Onward together,

Wenonah Hauter
