There are almost 200 political prisoners in jail in Burma. Almost 400 more activists face trial and possible detention at a future date.

Aung San Suu Kyi, as de facto leader of the NLD-led government, has the power to order the release of all political prisoners through a Presidential pardon. Her majority in Parliament gives her the power to repeal all repressive laws.

Burma’s jails are overcrowded and a dangerous place to be during the Covid-19 pandemic. Political prisoners should not be in jail in the first place, and now face even more danger because of the pandemic.

'Blue Shirt Day'
U Win Tin was one of Burma’s most well-known political prisoners. He served nearly 20 years in jail and after his release famously pledged to keep wearing his blue prison shirt until all political prisoners were released.
 
21^st April is the 6th anniversary of his death, and on this day people around the world are joining forces, pledging to wear a blue shirt and join the call for the release of all political prisoners in Burma.
