When we founded our online publication, The American Mind (TAM) a few years ago, it was in response to a felt need first articulated most persuasively by our Claremont Fellows.
We repeatedly heard that there was no journalistic outlet where concerned, intelligent patriots could publish freely without censorship.
More than that, some of the gatekeepers of establishment conservative publications were out of touch or, worse yet, did not care.
As one Fellow noted, “what conservative Americans need are fearless writers—and a matching news site—to give voice to the problems everyone sees but are too scared to cover.”
So, we got to work.
Matt Peterson, our former Vice President of Education, who conceived and birthed the project, immediately tapped James Poulos (Publius, 2010) as Executive Editor. Later, David Bahr (Lincoln, 2016) joined as Managing Editor.
These Fellows, in turn, recruited other Fellows to write for TAM.
Soon, we had contributions from Mollie Hemingway (Lincoln, 2014), Josh Hammer (Marshall, 2018), Sen. Tom Cotton (Publius, 1997), and Charlie Kirk (Lincoln, 2021) appearing in our pages.
Today, TAM remains one of the most vital sources of sound analysis concerning the problems facing America. It remains vital because the Fellows who write for us are the ones closest to the action of the day.
I encourage you to bookmark The American Mind and include it in your daily reading digest. In many ways one could say it embodies, “The Claremont Fellows Mind.”
When our pieces make waves on the internet, it is our Fellows, and their Claremont education we should credit.
