John,
More than 20 million Americans have filed for unemployment benefits as a result of the coronavirus pandemic in the last month, alone. People are struggling to make ends meet. But instead of working to address the needs of low-income and working families throughout our country, Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell have used COVID-19 as an excuse to give massive tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires.
Together, we are going to make sure Congress prioritizes the needs of working families, low-income people and the vulnerable. Donate to the Coalition on Human Needs today to fight to ensure Congress stays focused on the needs of those who need it most.
We need to demand that Congress leaves no one behind!
The Washington Post reported on Thursday that the job losses have "wiped out a decade of employment gains and pushed families to line up at food banks as they await government help."1
In the next coronavirus emergency aid package, we’re demanding Congress opposes new tax breaks for corporate America and the rich—and, instead, prioritizes funding for: direct payments to working families, safety net programs like nutrition assistance and Medicaid, aid to prevent evictions or foreclosures, paid sick-leave for all working people, protection for healthcare and other workers, saving child care centers, and supporting state and local governments on the frontlines of the pandemic.
Donate today to demand Congress support working families and low-income people, not wealthy corporations and Trump's billionaire friends.
Congress has passed three rounds of COVID-19 legislation. Too much of the aid, however, is dedicated to bailing out corporations and wealthy business owners without providing enough funding to laid-off workers, healthcare providers, and communities in need.
In the last coronavirus aid package, $170 billion in tax breaks went to wealthy business owners, 82% of which make more than $1 million annually. That is unacceptable!
Together, we are going to stop Trump from using the coronavirus crisis as an excuse to carve out more tax breaks for the rich and powerful—and save the economy by getting help to those who need it most.
Thank you,
Deborah Weinstein Executive Director, Coalition on Human Needs
