John — Although I’m term-limited and won’t be on the ballot this time around, I’m determined to do everything in my power to elect Democrats in our key battleground state — and, especially, keep North Carolina’s governor’s office in Democratic hands. Our nominee Josh Stein remains deadlocked with his extremist opponent in the polls, while national Republican groups are targeting this race as their top gubernatorial pick-up opportunity. John, I know firsthand what it takes to win in North Carolina: direct voter outreach in every corner of the state, including the most rural areas. Josh’s team is aggressively targeting undecided voters, but it doesn’t come cheap. While Josh is ready to keep up the progress we’ve made on key issues from health care access to protecting public education, far-right extremist Mark Robinson would undo it all — and lay further waste to our most fundamental freedoms. Mark Robinson supports an abortion ban without exceptions, holds dangerous views about public education, and embraces extremist conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. Even with all these dangerous and unacceptable positions, he has the full weight of national Republicans behind his campaign. The far-right is attempting to buy this office, and it’ll take strong grassroots support to stop them. Like I said: I know better than most how hard it is to win a statewide race in North Carolina. I’ve also seen firsthand just what kind of an impact people-power can have on competitive races like this one. We can win, John — but we have to do it together.
