*Governor Thanks WYDOT and Partners for Monumental Teton Pass Reopening Effort*

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Governor Gordon praised the collaborative effort led by the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) that culminated in today's reopening of Wyoming State Highway 22, Teton Pass, three weeks after a catastrophic road failure closed the thoroughfare.

The interim detour road is slated to open midday Friday around the Big Fill landslide at milepost 12.8. The 24-7 rebuilding effort was the most notably effective response to a mountain roadway closure in recent WYDOT history. The reconnected highway will restore normal travel times for Jackson’s commuter workforce, as well as tourists visiting the Greater Yellowstone region. Governor Gordon issued the following statement:

"“We saw the viral video of the collapse, and it is a testament to the expertise and dedication of our Wyoming Department of Transportation that they were able to mobilize to construct this temporary road. WYDOT is now working diligently on the next steps for the full rebuild, keeping motorist safety paramount. Our residents, commuting workforce and visitors – this road is open to you. I applaud everyone who has come together to solve this problem and help –  that’s the Wyoming way."

"Teton Pass is a vital roadway for Jackson. It’s absolutely incredible how the community and Wyoming came together to respond to the Teton Pass collapse. I want to thank the Wyoming Department of Transportation, the Wyoming Transportation Commission, Evans Construction, Wyoming Office of Homeland Security, U.S. Forest Service, Teton County and the Town of Jackson for mobilizing resources quickly to assist our communities -- and our commuter workforce --and work to get the road reopened. Thank you as well to our partners in Idaho for their immediate willingness to offer assistance. You helped rebuild this vital infrastructure and respond to others in need."

"I send thanks to Senator Barrasso and Senator Lummis for underscoring the need for emergency funding. I am supporting our transportation department in every possible way to ensure we can repair this road quickly and safely.” "
