This decision leaves pregnant people in danger.
ACLU Supporter, major news – the Supreme Court was asked to say once and for all that every pregnant person has the basic right to emergency abortion care when their health or lives are in danger. And today they refused to do so.
While today's dismissal provides limited, temporary relief – restoring Idaho doctors' ability to provide emergency care for now as the case continues in the lower courts – it is no replacement for real protections for emergency care.
To be clear: We're not out of the woods yet – far from it.
The Court's refusal to put an end to these attacks on emergency abortion care leaves countless pregnant people at unnecessary risk. In fact, some justices laid out a roadmap for just how they would strip pregnant people of this basic right when this case comes back to the Court.
Today's decision makes our work to protect and restore our reproductive rights even more important. The ACLU is committed to confronting and stopping this assault on reproductive freedom – and we will not quit until all of us have the right to control our reproductive lives.
Thank you for staying in this fight with us – we could not do our work without you.
