Dear Friend, I am writing to share very exciting news: We Won Workers Deferred Action!
The Biden administration has created an expedited Deferred Action process for labor violations, which gives workers the confidence to report workplace violations and abuse without fear of retaliation. This is not just protection against employer retaliation; it is a crucial organizing tool. It safeguards workers' rights and ensures their voices are heard.
Our fight for Deferred Action began when Jose German Rodriguez, Carlos Carrillo Blandon along with his fellow masonry workers, reached out to DC Jobs With Justice for help. He and his coworkers faced severe retaliation and wage theft from their employer. Refusing to be silenced, Jose, Carlos and his coworkers became members of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) Local 1, amplifying their collective voice against labor violations. The group of workers reported violations and acquired Statements of Interest to start their deferred action application process. |

This was a lengthy process and took months of collecting testimonies, holding trainings to assist with applications, and collaborating with workers, BAC Local 1, the Office of the Attorney General and the National Labor Relations Board, to succeed. But the perseverance of the workers paid off. Jose German Rodriguez finally received his letter of approval, granting him temporary protection from deportation and a work permit!
“With Deferred Action, I can fight for my rights as a worker alongside my coworkers without fear. I’m finally out of the shadows, and I will help more workers fight for their rights,” said Jose German Rodriguez.
Jose German Rodriguez and his coworkers’ victory is a testament to the strength found in collective action. Their story serves as a powerful reminder: there is nothing more powerful than your voice!

La administración Biden ha creado un proceso acelerado de Acción Diferida para violaciones laborales, que brinda a los trabajadores la confianza para denunciar violaciones y abusos en el lugar de trabajo sin temor a represalias. Esto no es sólo protección contra represalias de los empleadores; es una herramienta de organización crucial. Salvaguarda los derechos de los trabajadores y garantiza que sus voces sean escuchadas.
Nuestra lucha por la Acción Diferida comenzó cuando José Germán Rodríguez, Carlos Carrillo Blandón y sus compañeros trabajadores de albañilería pidieron ayuda a DC Jobs With Justice. Él y sus compañeros de trabajo enfrentaron severas represalias y robo de salarios por parte de su empleador. Negándose a ser silenciados, José, Carlos y sus compañeros de trabajo se convirtieron en miembros del Local 1 de Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC), amplificando su voz colectiva contra las violaciones laborales. Pero la perseverancia de los trabajadores dio sus frutos. ¡José Germán Rodríguez finalmente recibió su carta de aprobación, otorgándole protección temporal contra la deportación y un permiso de trabajo!
“Con Acción Diferida, puedo luchar por mis derechos como trabajador junto a mis compañeros de trabajo sin miedo. Finalmente salí de las sombras y ayudaré a más trabajadores a luchar por sus derechos”, dijo José Germán Rodríguez.
