John,
This week, we filed nearly 55,000 petition signatures in Dallas and McAllen to get our ballot measures on the November ballot!
Our Texan community is rich with diversity, bringing together people from all walks of life. We see firsthand the power of our collective actions. When we stand together, we achieve meaningful victories that uplift our community.
Dallas Freedom Act: On Monday, Ground Game Texas turned in nearly 50,000 signatures to put the Dallas Freedom Act on the November ballot. This will decriminalize marijuana possession of 4 ounces or less in Dallas. This campaign continues our work in racial justice, addressing the disproportionate arrests of Black individuals for possession.
Pro-democracy measures in McAllen, Texas: Also on Monday, we delivered over 5,000 signatures in McAllen to limit campaign contributions to $500 per donor and give voters more direct democracy powers, including initiative, referendum, and recall. As our McAllen campaign manager Karen Salazar put it, “We want to make sure that small businesses and working people can have their voices heard at McAllen City Hall.”
John, the Dallas Freedom Act and the pro-democracy measures in McAllen are part of a larger movement that rejects division and creates the change we all deserve. From our signatures on the petition to our collective votes on the ballot, this is our power, our voice, our moral receipt—this is our Texas movement.
