Friend —
Like many of you, I will be watching tonight's debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
I am hopeful that they will use the time to address many of the very real issues impacting Michiganders and all Americans in this election. Having watched President Trump debate several times before, I am concerned it will devolve into petty attacks and name-calling from the former president. That would be unfortunate; the American people deserve better, and our kids will be watching and hearing about this debate to be the next president.
But the truth is, I don't have to see any more from Donald Trump to know that he is unfit to lead our nation as president and as Commander in Chief again.
His anti-worker policies threaten to hurt Michiganders and the middle class. He and his judicial appointments would set the reproductive rights of women and families across this country back even further. His environmental policies and threats to roll back any progress made over the last several years threaten the habitability of our country and our planet. And as someone who barricaded herself in her office on January 6th, when he incited violence and insurrection, his attacks on our democracy should be disqualifying.
For better or worse, the outcome of the presidential election and my election are tied together. The better Trump does, the worse it is for our Senate campaign. The better we do, the more we ensure that Trump does not win Michigan — and, by extension, the White House.
And at the end of the day, both control of the White House and the Senate run through Michigan.
So if you are anxiously awaiting tonight's debate and looking to do something that will make a difference, here's my ask:
