There seems to be some confusion.
State governments have an interest—a responsibility even—in protecting public health. That’s why issuing stay-at-home orders and enforcing social distancing guidelines in the face of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is often perfectly legal.
But there is a difference between protecting public health and abusing state power to punish people of faith.
