John: Amidst all the continuous fights over our right to vote lately we cannot lose sight of our successes -- Minnesota passed a new state Voting Rights Act that will expand voting rights. This bill:
➜ Guarantees voters the right to sue if they face vote suppression or vote dilution.
➜ Guarantees in state law protections previously afforded under the 1965 federal Voting Rights Act.
➜ Uses a person’s address prior to incarceration for setting voting maps, rather than counting their residence in the region where they are incarcerated.
➜ Sharpens a state law that makes it a crime to make and share distorted images and videos intended to influence an election.
Remember: The recent 8th Federal Circuit Court ruling is one of the most dangerous anti-voter rulings we’ve seen in years . In the eight states impacted by the ruling, voters and voting rights organizations can no longer sue to overturn unjust laws under the Voting Rights Act.
This bill in Minnesota restores those protections and codifies them in state law, regardless of how the Supreme Court eventually rules.
John: We need to expand this progress from Minnesota to other states around the country. Pitch in $25 or whatever you can today to defend the right to vote and support our work to pass critical pro-voter legislation nationwide >> [[link removed]]

The original Voting Rights Act is one of the most important laws ever passed in American history and a critical protection against discrimination in our democracy. With the courts dismantling it piece by piece, we need states to act and protect our right to vote.
We're not the only ones who see it this way. Michael Pernick, voting rights attorney of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, said this: “ As Black voters face the greatest assault on voting rights since Jim Crow, Minnesota is embracing the opportunity to build on its progress in advancing the freedom to vote and join the growing list of states protecting voters against unequal access to the ballot. ”
Governors and state legislatures can act to help solve the voting rights crisis . It's up to us to make sure they do their jobs.
John, we need to spread laws like this around the country like wildfire, from Arizona to Nevada to Georgia. Pitch in $25 or whatever you can today to help expand ballot access and make every vote count nationwide! >> [[link removed]]
