Dear John,

Yesterday, I attended the Minnesota State Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the rising scourge of antisemitism at the University of Minnesota. We heard from the university's outgoing President Jeff Ettinger and other community groups and stakeholders--some of whom should NOT have been invited.

The list of growing problems left inadequately addressed is long and unsettling. It strikes me as absurd that while we allow all other groups to define for themselves what is racist, sexist, or otherwise offensive, there are those who deny the Jewish community the ability to define for themselves what is antisemitic.

Pictured above, L-R: Senator Warren Limmer (R-37); Republican endorsed candidates KT Jacobs (39B); Dalia Al-Aqidi (CD-5); Alec Beck (chair, CD-5); Kim Rich (46B); John Nagel (46A).

Applying a set of standards for one group or nation that would be applied to no other is what both the Jewish community and Israel are constantly forced to endure. This isn't right and I'm proud to add my voice to those declaring, "enough is enough. Enough discrimination."

Republican-endorsed candidate for Minnesota House District 46A (St. Louis Park), John Nagel reflected, "It was frustrating to listen to the University of Minnesota president talk about procedures to keep students safe when obviously none of those procedures worked. All of the charges were dropped with the consent if not urging of the university. They should never have allowed pro-terrorist groups to negotiate with the school, which itself is an act of legitimization."

You'd be forgiven if you assumed the university's faculty vote of "no confidence" today was in recognition of President Ettinger's failure to provide a safe campus for Jewish students or to at least apply university rules evenly. Unfortunately, the opposite is true. They wanted him to be more anti-Israel and more anti-Jewish. Read the latest HERE.

I was joined at the hearing yesterday by some of the great rising Republican stars in Minnesota's Fifth Congressional District and beyond. They included the Ranking Member of the Judiciary Committee Senator Warren Limmer, the Chair of Congressional District 5 Republicans Alec Beck, and Republican candidates for the Minnesota State House, John Nagel (46A), Kim Rich (46B), and KT Jacobs (39B), who has been a lone warrior in her district on this issue from her position on the Columbia Heights City Council.

We are failing at both a state and federal level. Under President Biden:

  • There have been no known federal investigations or prosecutions of universities that lied to the American people about foreign donations.
  • There are no federal civil rights lawsuits or prosecutions against organizations sponsoring university protests involving violence and intimidation.
  • The U.S. Department of Education has issued no referrals of education civil rights cases to the Justice Department for civil or criminal action.
  • No foreign students have been deported for violating the terms of their visas by supporting designated terrorist groups.
  • There are no federal investigations of local police departments for refusing to enforce the law against antisemitic protestors who are openly violating the law.
  • And as we watch protestors waving the flags of U.S.-designated terrorist groups and adopting their genocidal slogans, there have been no material support for terrorism prosecutions since the horrific terrorist attacks of October 7.

Biden can’t have it both ways. Either he’s serious about protecting all Americans, including the Jewish community, or he can continue to pander for the unAmerican votes of his pro-terrorist base that counts Ilhan Omar as one of their main boosters.

We must stand united against all forms of hatred. There is no room for the support of terrorist groups like Hamas. This should not be a partisan issue but a human one. Standing together, we can make Minnesota safe and inclusive for everyone.
