Here in Colorado, we’re facing off against one of the most extreme Republican Parties in the entire nation. They’re attacking the right to choose, attacking the LGBTQ+ community, attacking anybody who won’t fall into line behind Donald Trump.

Our campaign couldn’t be more different. Years ago, I didn’t get involved expecting that I could one day run for Congress. In fact, it was pretty unlikely that I ended up here.

Unlike far too many people in Washington, I know what it’s like to struggle. I came from a regular middle-class family — but it all changed when I was 6 and my mom injured her back and was over-prescribed opioids, which led to a decades-long addiction, including to heroin.

Even though I faced a lot of challenges at home, our community gave me a chance. I had access to amazing schools and great teachers that gave me the foundation to succeed. Because of those community investments, I went a much different path than I was likely to go — becoming the first in my family to graduate from high school and college, served in the state legislature, and was even elected to Congress. That’s why I've dedicated my life fighting for the issues and candidates who are committed to reinvesting back in the American people and leveling the playing field for regular people like me.

But this campaign isn’t about me. It’s about our future, our freedoms, and our country.

We are facing an unprecedented election, and there is so much at stake: women's rights are being stripped away, transgender youth are being dangerously targeted, and our democracy is on the line.

But here’s what I know – together, with the right leadership, we can solve our country’s most urgent needs. We can address climate change, increase housing supply, address our immigration crisis, protect rights for all, and bring a fair tax system that reinvests in our future.

We all watch the news. We see the chaos and dysfunction. It's easy to feel overwhelmed about what's ahead.

But I refuse to wake up on November 6 wishing I had done more.
