John, I recently had the privilege to sit down with Rolling Stone to talk about the climate crisis, my journey through activism, and why this November's election is so crucial. I'd love to share some of my thoughts (and hopefully even inspire you to stay active in the climate fight!)
But first, I have a personal request: We're just a few days away from a pretty big end-of-quarter deadline, and we're aiming for an ambitious goal of $25,000. Every single donation will help us empower bold climate champions and make a real difference. Would you be able to chip in a few dollars?
I've always believed that if you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together. Joining an organization, participating in a protest, or simply engaging in conversations with others who share your values can be incredibly rewarding. It was through meeting like-minded individuals that I transitioned from a life of hedonism to one dedicated to activism back in 1970. I met people who were living for something bigger than themselves, and it was like peering through a keyhole into a world we were striving to create.
These days, it’s the climate crisis that consumes me. In 2022, I co-founded the Jane Fonda Climate PAC to elect candidates who will push back against the corrupting influence of the fossil fuel industry and prioritize science-backed climate action.
The fossil fuel industry is a wounded beast right now. They know fossil fuels are on their way out, so they're poking holes all over the place, trying to squeeze out the last drop of oil or gas to ratchet up profits. This reckless push for profits is creating a public health crisis — our air, water, and soil are being contaminated, leading to a rise in asthma, cancer, strokes, and other serious health issues. We can't let them endanger our communities any longer.
As we inch closer to the election in November, the stakes have never been higher. This is an existential election. Who becomes president will have a massive impact on whether we have a livable future. And it’s not just about the presidency. Down-ballot races — city councils, state legislators, boards of supervisors, mayors — that’s where the robust work on climate is happening.
And this is what the Jane Fonda Climate PAC is all about. Our mission is to fund and support candidates up and down the ballot who are committed to bold, fearless climate action. We are dedicated to creating a future where our children and grandchildren can thrive in a healthy, sustainable environment. This isn't just about one election — it's about building lasting change.
I can't think about anything else. I go to sleep on it. I wake up thinking about it. I will fight for climate action until the day I die. Because, you know, if we started doing everything correctly right now, my four-year-old grandson would be living in a pretty cool world in 25 years. Now that’s worth fighting for.
So, I urge you to get involved, John. Vote with climate in mind. Encourage your friends and family to do the same. Join us in this fight because we can’t do it alone. And if you can, please chip in before our end-of-quarter fundraising deadline to ensure we can continue to make a difference in the climate fight.
