From the moment my dad arrived in the United States from Mexico, he worked tirelessly to support his family. First in the fields, then in the military, and later as a police officer.

Both my parents worked incredibly hard, yet as is the case for so many families, it was enough to make ends meet each month, but not enough to put me through school. So I juggled all kinds of jobs to pay for college.

That’s one of the reasons why, in Congress, I’m fighting every day to make life easier for working families — with affordable health care, good-paying jobs, and a fair economy. Because I know firsthand what it’s like to see your family work as hard as they can and still feel like they’re one big unforeseen expense away from disaster.
