    Dear John,

Health Affairs Scholar is celebrating its one-year anniversary.

The journal was founded by Health Affairs to meet the growing and unmistakable need to widely share new research findings to the health policy community through swift and open-access publication.

The digital journal published its first issue in July 2023 with a dedication to emerging policy trends and global health. Since launch, Scholar has published cross-cutting and timely research vetted through high-quality peer review.

The journal is being noticed. Cited by Congress and national media outlets like the New York Times, NPR, and the Los Angeles Times, Scholar has published papers on health care costs, access, quality, and equity. High-impact papers have included:

    • Active steps to reduce administrative spending associated with financial transactions in US health care
    • Food and Drug Administration novel drug decisions in 2017: transparency and disclosure prior to and 5 years following approval
    • Has the fall of Roe changed contraceptive access and use? New research from four US states offers critical insights

Health Affairs Scholar is one of the fastest health policy peer-reviewed journals available. From submission to advance article publication, the median time is 73 days, which includes author revision.

Scholar recently has been accepted for indexing in PubMed Central, a major milestone that reflects the journal’s strong quality of scholarship. It is also indexed in Google Scholar.

Do you have a paper that needs publishing? Consider Health Affairs Scholar as your research’s destination.

    Celebrating Pride Month

It is Pride Month and we are highlighting  those working to advance health equity and policy for the LGBTQIA+ community.

In a September 2023 Forefront article, Gray Babbs and coauthors argue that legislators have the opportunity to align themselves with every major medical association and the ever-present voice of transgender and non-binary communities by choosing to bolster access to gender-affirming care.
