Coronavirus Update: Montana Veterans Will Now Receive Direct Checks
Automatically
What's
New:
Following a letter I sent to the
Department of Treasury and the Department of Veterans Affairs on Tuesday
April 14th, the Treasury released that they have partnered with the VA
to ensure Veterans and their beneficiaries receive their stimulus
checks automatically and without additional paperwork.
Why it Matters:
Many veterans and their families have not filed taxes
in a number of years which complicates Treasury’s ability to
automatically distribute payments to veterans and their families. The
Treasury, IRS, and VA are working together to ensure that our
nation’s heroes receive their payments quickly and without additional
action or paperwork. This is great news for our Montana veterans and
their families who have given so much in defense of this country.
Ensuring our veterans get these direct checks as quickly and easily as
possible will help give some peace of mind during these tough
times.
What's
Next:
Treasury is currently working on
distributing payments to citizens as part of the large effort to combat
the economic effect of the novel coronavirus. These checks are
expected to be distributed over the course of the next couple of weeks as a
way to provide support to citizens.
