Friends —

With all that’s going on, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the news. Above all, we hope you can find time to take care of yourself and your loved ones as we all navigate this unprecedented crisis together.

We had a feeling Cory would have some good suggestions on places to find inspiration and love during these trying times — he’s usually great for that kind of thing — so we asked him for a round-up of stories that have made him smile lately. And as usual, he delivered.

Here are a few highlights he sent us:

First, don’t miss the story about this ShopRite worker in Paramus who will go out of her way to brighten your day with a song about social distancing while you shop.

Grab some tissues: Catch up on this heartwarming tale of one town in New Jersey coming together to throw their local Disney princess the birthday surprise of her dreams after her Make-A-Wish trip to the theme park was canceled. Who knew so many of our Disney favorites lived in Upper Township?

Celebrating a hero: A World War II veteran in Hamilton was ready to celebrate his 100th birthday with a party. Unfortunately, the coronavirus canceled those plans, but that didn’t stop his neighbors from throwing him a huge parade throughout the town to recognize his big day.

Staying in touch: A Williamstown-based company wanted to make sure local veterans had an easy way to keep in touch with loved ones while we all do our part to flatten the curve by staying home. Thanks to laptops they donated, residents of the Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland can continue to visit with their friends and family while also protecting their health and safety.

These are just a few of the many stories of hope, love, community, and resilience that are keeping Cory going lately, even as tough times are still ahead for New Jersey and so many other states affected by the coronavirus across the country. We hope some of these made you smile and can act as a reminder about the healing power our love for each other can have.

Have a favorite local story that brought a smile to your face or hope to your heart? Cory would love to hear about them, too! Reply to this email or tweet the tales that are keeping your spirits high to him directly at @CoryBooker.
