John,
My Squad brother Jamaal Bowman lost his Congressional primary yesterday after being outspent 7 to 1.
Jamaal visited my Palestinian sity in Palestine’s West Bank when I couldn’t, and he recognized her humanity without hesitation. Unlike many of our colleagues in Congress, Jamaal hasn’t bowed down to those who believe killing thousands of Palestinian children is acceptable.
Because Jamaal believed that Palestinians deserve to live, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) spent nearly $20 million to unseat him.
This is the most expensive U.S. House of Representatives primary ever. Funded mainly by far-right billionaires, AIPAC saturated the airwaves with racist attack ads and encouraged Republicans to register as Democrats to vote against Jamaal.
We can’t let AIPAC undermine our democracy or scare lawmakers into continued unconditional support for Israel’s military. So we’ve got to defend AIPAC’s next target: Rep. Cori Bush.
Like Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush is a courageous leader for Palestinians’ human rights. AIPAC has already spent $2 million supporting Cori’s anti-ceasefire opponent, and the group will spend many millions more over the next month before Cori’s August 6th primary election in Missouri.
Can you help Cori Bush overcome millions of dollars in attacks from pro-genocide billionaires? Please rush an urgent donation to our re-election campaigns today.
Back in October of last year, Cori heeded the call from the grassroots to introduce a Congressional resolution demanding a ceasefire and humanitarian aid to Gaza. Like Jamaal, Cori was one of the first members of Congress to correctly refer to these attacks on Palestinians as ethnic cleansing and genocide.
In 2014 Cori met Palestinian activists on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri while protesting for Black lives, and she saw the connections between Black and Palestinian struggles against state violence. Since then, she’s criticized the U.S. government’s complicity in Israel’s human rights abuses.
In Congress, Cori and I have advocated against ever-growing spending on police and military budgets, all while our communities are struggling to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads.
Cori and I were grassroots activists before running for Congress, and we’re still holding firm to our values—even when it makes us targets. We won’t back down or stay silent. We will continue demanding an end to this genocide and denouncing the U.S. government’s role in it.
We need more elected officials in office who recognize our shared humanity and who see Palestinians as human beings. But other Congresspeople have been intimidated and silenced by AIPAC before, and now they’re paying attention to see if speaking up for Palestinians’ rights is worth the political risk. That’s why we’ve got to protect Cori Bush’s seat in Congress.
Can you rush a donation of $5 or more to my and Cori Bush’s re-election campaigns today? We can’t let Trump-supporting billionaires buy any more Democratic elections—and we can’t lose any more progressive champions from our Squad.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately, split evenly between Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush
Thank you so much. Together, we will continue fighting back against genocide and against big money in politics. We’ll keep building a government that works for all of us, not just the privileged few—where everyone has the chance to thrive.
In solidarity,
Rashida
