Dear Family,

I hope this email finds you in good health and good spirits. I just wanted to take a moment to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your support. I would not have come this far without you, and I am grateful to you for it. Although we did not achieve our desired outcome in this election, I think we are on the verge of accomplishing something even greater — a beautifully diverse and mighty coalition to build a better world.

This race was never about just this race. It was always about justice. Humanity. Equality. Our collective liberation. Ours was a righteous and necessary fight for the health, strength and future of our democracy. Together, we pulled the curtain back on the scourge of big money in politics in a way that may have never been done before. Our fight revealed for all to see the inhumanity in our foreign policy and the reality that our struggle for justice must be a collective, global struggle. This fight will inspire others to fight. Because truth must never be suppressed and cannot be denied. In the beautiful words of Dr. King, “I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final say in reality.” Let us continue to love one another, learn from each other, and fight for justice and our collective humanity.

I will take some time to rest and be still. I will clean my home (Melissa’s orders 😊), catch up on some reading, and spend time with my children who I miss deeply. I feel liberated, and excited to build this next chapter in my life. There are an unlimited number of ways to make an impact in the world and I hope to explore some of those ways with you. This is a challenging and horrible time for so many, but it also presents an opportunity for us to come together and become the best version of ourselves.

I love you all deeply. The power and humility of that love is all we need to build a better country and a better world. I look forward to building that country and world with you. We got more work to do. God bless you. Let us continue to center our children together.
