John,
Baking is love.
For my family, it’s how we show people we love them. It is a labor of love. Decades ago, I learned just how many families feel the same way, when we opened our first Porto’s Bakery & Café just around the corner from CHLA.
I didn’t know we were by a children’s hospital back then, but I soon learned the stories of the patients, doctors and nurses who visited the bakery. Families celebrating a homecoming after a difficult time, or a mom bringing something yummy to put a much-needed smile on her child’s face while they were in the hospital.
Every story—every single one—was about love. In those early days, I didn't know how much our bakery would become part of CHLA, connected to the hundreds of thousands of patients and caregivers who pass through their—and our—doors. But I’m so glad we are still deeply connected, nearly fifty years later.
Today, we’re giving back to this community, and I'm hoping you’ll join us in doing something special: Right now, Porto's Bakery & Café is matching all donations made to CHLA's Children's Fund dollar for dollar, up to $100,000. Please make your first $10 gift right now while it will be matched and you can make double the difference for kids.
And for every gift of $35 or more, a CHLA patient family will get a Porto’s gift card to help provide some comfort during a difficult time.
Porto’s is so honored that CHLA named a room in the cardiology department after the bakery to mark our decades-old connection—the Porto’s Bakery & Café Exam Room! Here I am visiting the hospital to deliver treats during the holidays.
I hope you can join me to help give CHLA a little extra support today so they can keep providing the best possible care for kids. If you donate $10 this week, we'll match your gift dollar for dollar to double your impact for sick and injured kids, up to $100,000. Please consider a donation of at least $35 and a patient family will get a Porto's gift card for some sweet treats!
Together, we can ensure that every child receives the treatment and support they need.
Warmly,
Betty Porto and the Porto's Bakery & Café Team
