I wanted to take a moment to write to you about my good friend and colleague from the state next door, Minnesota Senator Tina Smith.
Tina has been working her tail off in the Senate to help families in her state and across the country get through this public health crisis. She is exactly the type of champion we need to keep fighting for us in the Senate.
Her Republican opponent, on the other hand, has made a dangerous decision. He chose to resume in-person campaign events today and is putting people’s health at risk with each stop he makes. This is an attempt to score cheap political points in the middle of an emergency situation. Shame on him.
Donald Trump even took to Twitter today, using inflammatory rhetoric to pressure Minnesota leaders to reopen their economy in the middle of this pandemic, which has already taken the lives of tens of thousands of Americans.
Look, we are all in this together, so we need to continue working side by side to take additional steps to get through this public health crisis, stabilize our economy, and help it move forward — but we still have a long way to go and losing a leader like Tina in the Senate would set us back.
That’s why I’m asking you to split a contribution between Tina’s re-election campaign and our work to flip the Senate to ensure we continue to elect responsible leaders who will take this pandemic seriously, not use this moment as a political prop.
