Friend,
We can’t control our president’s pathological lack of empathy and inability to lead — but we can control how we recover from the worst economic recession since the Great Depression.
I’m writing to let you know that starting today, I’ll be leading California Governor Gavin Newsom’s Business and Jobs Recovery Task Force —
and I want your input as we get going.
Even if you don’t live in California, your input is valuable to me.
My job in the coming weeks and months is to write a fair, green, people-centered economic strategy to help California recover from the COVID-19 induced recession — one that can be a model for the rest of the country.
We will center on the communities hit hardest — working families, communities of color, the unhoused, and low-income communities — to ensure an equitable and just recovery, be as transparent and inclusive as possible, and most importantly, prioritize everyone’s health and safety. This is non-negotiable. What we’re
not going to do is go back to business as usual: The “old way” — where lobbyists write the recovery rules — is over.
Friend, if you are comfortable sharing, I want to know: How has this recession affected you or your family’s income, job, business, or livelihood?
Your answers will be part of our solution, and I may follow up with you individually to learn more.
A forward-thinking government does what’s right by its people, the climate, and communities who normally get left out of the conversation. That’s our plan for this economic recovery, too.
Thanks in advance for your input and story. We’ll get through this together.
