TAMMY BALDWIN FOR SENATE

Folks,

9 years ago today, the Supreme Court made marriage equality the law of the land in the decision Obergefell v. Hodges.

This ruling was the culmination of decades of tireless activism for equal rights for LGBTQ+ couples.

We took another giant leap forward by enshrining marriage equality into federal law through the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act in 2022, a bill I proudly authored. This bipartisan success was one of my proudest accomplishments in the Senate.

We’ve come a long way and have made incredible strides in our fight for LGBTQ+ rights, but we cannot mistake that progress for victory.

Far-right Republicans are pushing harmful anti-LGBTQ+ laws in state legislatures across the country, especially targeting the transgender community and LGBTQ+ youth. More than 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced across the country this year alone. We must fight back.

Taking inspiration from the activists before us — from those who sparked the Stonewall Riots in 1969 to those who fought in the courts for marriage equality in 2015 — I promise to keep up the fight for LGBTQ+ rights until everyone can live freely, openly, and authentically — but I can’t do it alone.

So with a critical end-of-quarter fundraising deadline approaching for our campaign, I’m hoping you’ll chip in so we can keep building on the progress we’ve made and continue our work toward full equality.
