George Latimer defeats House "squad" member Jamaal Bowman in Democratic primary in appalling display of legal foreign election interference
A tidal wave of right-wing, pro-Israel money was enough to propel 70-year-old George Latimer, Westchester County Executive, to victory over progressive champion and former principal Jamaal Bowman in New York's 16th District Democratic primary. Latimer spent the waning days of his race fighting off a racism scandal, but it was the $14.5 MILLION in outside money from AIPAC that proved to be the deciding factor in what became the most expensive primary in US history. Bowman was once very pro-Israel, until he took a trip to the West Bank and saw for himself the horrendous living conditions that Israel imposes on Palestinians. “There are streets they cannot walk and places they cannot go, simply because they are Palestinian. When I asked about their dreams, their answer was simple: freedom. The occupation must end." This crisis of conscience end up costing Bowman his seat in Congress, for his outspoken criticism of both Israel's appalling human rights record and the IDF's mass slaughter of more than 37,000 people invited an avalanche of outside spending against him, organized by those in service of a foreign power.

16 Nobel economists see a Trump inflation bomb
In an open letter to the public, more than a dozen Nobel laureate economists have reached the obvious conclusion that the corporate tax cuts in a trench coat that pass for Trump's "economic policy" would be supremely damaging to the American economy. "While each of us has different views on the particulars of various economic policies, we all agree that Joe Biden's economic agenda is vastly superior to Donald Trump," wrote the economists. "Many Americans are concerned about inflation, which has come down remarkably fast. There is rightly a worry that Donald Trump will reignite this inflation, with his fiscally irresponsible budgets." The MAGA cult leader's proposals mostly include huge tax cuts for the wealthy and huge tariffs on imported goods, especially Chinese goods, which would fall the hardest on — surprise! — working class families! It's almost like the disgraced ex-president is a senile ex-gameshow host whose greatest business "successes" are cheating on his taxes for decades and racking up 34 felony convictions for financial misconduct and campaign fraud.

Senate hopeful Eric Hovde steps in it while talking Black culture
Mitch McConnell thought he had finally done it. He thought he found a *normal* GOP Senate candidate in Eric Hovde — a California banker who looks kinda like Jeff Foxworthy and expressed somewhat conventional concerns about normal things like the deficit instead of jailing Dr. Fauci — to run for the must-win Wisconsin seat currently held by beloved Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin. Unfortunately for Mitch, Hovde has proven to be a swagless carpetbagger who just can't stop shoving his foot in his mouth. So far, Hovde has been busted lying about being a "self-made businessman," flubbed the Pledge of Allegiance on live TV, and told elderly voters that they shouldn't be allowed to vote. But that all pales in comparison to his Juneteenth radio show appearance, in which he said that he'd learned about Juneteenth a decade ago but was only attending his first event commemorating the holiday now that he's running for public office...and that's when things got really embarrassing. "Look, I've spent a lot of time in Black culture, and as (Trump-aligned Black activist) Torey (Lowe) knows, I've spent a lot of time in places like Africa because I have homeless shelters for abandoned kids and rescuing kids out of the streets. And I've been involved in schooling — charter schools and things of that nature," Hovde awkwardly explained when asked what he'd learned on Juneteenth. While he may be a bumbling boor, Hovde does have a LOT of money — he's poured $8 million of his own wealth into the race, and he has come out in favor of a national abortion ban. We CANNOT let him bumble his way to the Senate.

Public funds for religious charter school would be unconstitutional, Oklahoma high court says
At least there's still one red state Supreme Court that has actually read the Constitution around here. In a 7-1 ruling, the Oklahoma Supreme Court shut down the Catholic Archdiocese's application to open the St. Isidore of Seville Virtual Charter School, pointing out that this obviously violates both the state and US Constitution's restrictions on public funds being used for religious purposes. It's the latest front in the GOP's efforts to replace our public schools with for-profit religious indoctrination centers that coincidentally don't accept Black children, and you can be sure that they won't stop trying until a case like this lands in front of Samuel Alito.

While peddling racist bullshit is commonplace in the right-wing propaganda network's programming, there has been a very alarming uptick in unabashed, dehumanizing, anti-immigrant xenophobia being blasted into nursing homes across America. During one of Fox's routine Two Minutes of Immigrant Hate segments focusing on crimes allegedly committed by migrants, Fox News newcomer Paul Mauro declared that "this has now morphed into biowarfare. These guys are smart weapons, they are bioweapons deployed against America. They are killing Americans and we don't seem to be really catching anybody's attention in Washington to stop it." This is straight up Der Stürmer-level racism being casually broadcast to the entire country on a daily basis from a major news network, and if the past eight years have taught us anything it's only a matter of time before someone commits a heinous act of violence in response to it.

Judge lifts parts of Trump gag order ahead of sentencing in New York criminal case
For some bizarre reason, Judge Juan Merchan is allowing the disgraced ex-president to resume attacking the witnesses and the jurors in his porn-star hush-money trial now that it's over and he's been convicted of 34 felonies. The gag order still holds for the judge, prosecutors, and their families, however. Merchan said the "circumstances have now changed” and said he was "reluctant" to lift the order on the jurors, as “there is ample evidence to justify continued concern for the jurors” but then did so anyway.

The only man in the world to have participated in both the "News Fight" from Anchorman AND the January 6th assault on the US Capitol has decided maybe pleading guilty is the best course of action, considering the wealth of photographic evidence incriminating him. Johnston will likely have to trade in his "Jimmy Pesto" voice acting role for packs of prison ramen, at least for a time.
