For the last two years, I have been the only Democrat to represent northwestern Iowa, and it looks like it may stay that way. The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee — a group that helps elect state legislators across the country with grassroots organizing efforts — just announced which Iowa candidates they are helping this year and NONE are in northwestern Iowa.

Now it's up to you and me to build a grassroots movement in our community, so it's a good thing we already started! Kim Reynolds and her far-right allies would like nothing more than to get rid of us by winning in November and placing a far-right puppet in the legislature instead. And here's the scary part, their plan could work.

In her last election, Kim Reynolds won our district by ten points. Her win speaks to two facts:

1. An extremist Republican could do the same thing in 2024.
2. Our grassroots organizing in 2022 was amazing!

It takes a lot of work and grit to overcome a ten point difference, but we did it in 2022 because we stood together. Our community all joined in — we knocked on doors, called friends and family, and had the hard conversations that change a person's mind. But we need to do the exact same thing this year.

We can only do this if we continue to invest in our grassroots organizing . We need to find organizers, print yard signs, and recruit volunteers — plus we need water bottles and the occasional pizza so volunteers can keep organizing! But it all takes time and investment.
