Dear friends,
I’m in a reflective mood these days. We’ve just rounded the corner into the official start of Summer, meaning Spring has come and gone. It was a full Spring, and I’m still savoring the joy of it. Let me share some glimpses!
I had the tremendous privilege of speaking at the Microchurch conference and sharing fantastic conversations with friends, new and old.
Hearing stories of small, faithful work being done in incredibly overlooked places was inspiring. Having the opportunity to encourage fellow missional practitioners to stay in the holy work of small, quiet and simple Jesus-shaped communities was a highlight of my Spring travel season.
Attending my first-ever Wesleyan Holiness Women’s Clergy conference was another highlight. Our team hosted an exhibit booth and had the opportunity to connect with hundreds of women clergy! It was a delight to share space with so many richly-gifted, God-ordained ministry leaders. Not only that, we drank deeply from the worship sessions, embodiment practices, and teaching of the conference speakers. It was a gift to be treasured!
Whether giving a TED style talk on the role of the prophet in apostolic movements or co-conspiring with the Cultivating Communities team to strengthen churches as they reimagine flourishing in their own contexts, I’ve been so blessed to lead the work here at Missio Alliance.
In addition to my travel and speaking, our team also spent time this Spring working to refine our vision and mission in preparation for a new website that will launch in the coming days. We’ve confirmed our location, dates, and the first few plenary speakers for our next Awakenings gathering. We launched an expanded version of the Writing Fellows Cohort just as we wrapped up our first-ever Women’s cohort. Familias Unidas is underway, and is gaining momentum in the Portland area. There’s so much for which to be grateful!
Perhaps the biggest culprit for my reflective mood these days is that my oldest child just graduated from high school and will be transitioning to college in just a couple of months. Marking time is so important in seasons like this. Taking stock of what has been and what is to come is its own form of creating meaning and beauty. Reflecting, naming, and cherishing are all practices for living wholeheartedly in the present, even as we prepare for the radically different future that is on our family’s horizon.
What are you reflecting on these days? Are you simultaneously holding and being open-handed with aspects of life and ministry? How are you seeing the sending nature of God as you engage the holy work of small, quiet and simple things? I’d love to hear from you as we travel this journey together!
With hope and expectation,
Lisa Rodriguez-Watson
National Director
