John,

Today marks seven years since the Senate rejected our background checks bill in 2013.

I still remember going from Senate office to Senate office just months after my sweet little Daniel was murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary, showing them photos of my gap-toothed boy so they could see the human toll of inaction. Then, I watched as some of those same senators voted against the bill.

As the Senate has sat on its hands these past seven years, gun violence has devastated families and communities across the country. Even worse, after the House passed a historic background checks bill last February, the Senate refused to vote on it.

I know there is so much going on right now, but it pains me to think about the children who might have been saved if our lawmakers had acted sooner – which is why we can’t allow this inaction to continue even a moment longer.

We need 20,000 petition signatures to demand the Senate finally take action to protect children from gun violence. Will you sign our petition now?

Please click here to sign the petition demanding the Senate pass universal background checks now to prevent future tragedies and save lives.

I returned home after that vote disappointed, but not defeated. I've always known this would be a long road – and I don't have the luxury of turning back.

This is our chance to make meaningful change that will protect more children from gun violence. I know that with your help today, we can save lives by demanding the Senate finally take action.

Thank you,

Mark Barden (Daniel’s father)
