The U.S. Surgeon General just declared gun violence a pubic health crisis and is urging action to address it. With tens of thousands of Americans killed every year by gun violence, this advisory is a critical call to action and our lawmakers must take note. “Gun violence in the United States is a public health crisis that demands urgent action”
–U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy
Today, the nation's top doctor declared gun violence as a public health crisis and issued a report urging more funding for firearms research and more common sense gun laws.
This is an historic move by the Surgeon General, John, and it comes at a critical time: Gun deaths continue to rise in the United States, hitting record highs, and now, gun violence is the number one cause of death for children and teens in our country.
The Surgeon General's call to action could not be more important and we need Congress to heed it.
The majority of Americans agree with our nation's top doctor: We need action to address our nation's gun violence crisis. We need your help to prove it to our lawmakers. John, will you add your name to Brady's petition calling for an assault weapons ban NOW: [[link removed]]

“Firearm violence is a public health crisis. Our failure to address it is a moral crisis.”
The Surgeon General’s advisory lays out key steps that our country can take to finally address gun violence, many of which Brady has been advocating for for decades, including more funding for firearms research and more gun laws like expanded background checks and an assault weapons ban.
We have seen reports from the Surgeon General have a consequential impact on public health issues in the past. Take tobacco: The Surgeon General issued a report on the dangers of smoking cigarettes and ignited a wave of life-saving policy and legal initiatives and allowed our citizens to extricate themselves from tobacco industry lies.
This report has the power to save lives and chip away at the gun lobby’s insidious lies. It's yet another indication that the tides are turning toward change in the United States – but it is not the end of the fight. We need lawmakers to take decisive action, too.
Will you add your name to Brady's urgent petition to Congress, demanding they take action to ban assault weapons and save lives? [[link removed]]
The Surgeon General said it right: “the safety and well-being of our children and future generations are at stake.” We have the power to save lives but it will take collective dedicaiton to this fight to do it.
Thank you for taking action today.
