Border Angels is committed to help release migrants from detention centers. Otay Mesa Detention Center has the most COVID-19 confirmed cases of any detention center in the United States.

Until the government releases them all, Border Angels will continue posting bond with the newly allotted $25,000 to the program.

This is a matter of life and death.

Three asylum seekers were released on Wednesday and reunited with their family!!

They each fled their respective home countries of Mexico and Cameroon due to violence and persecution.

Otay Mesa COVID-19 Outbreak Now The Largest At A US Immigration Detention Center

"There are now 19 detainees with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the privately-run Otay Mesa Detention Center, which houses civil immigration detainees and those in U.S. Marshal’s custody. 15 of those are immigration detainees. Eight staff members have also tested positive."

37 Immigrant Children at Chicago-Area Shelters Have COVID-19

"CHICAGO - Dozens of immigrant children in U.S. custody and living in three Chicago-area shelters have tested positive for COVID-19, officials said Tuesday.

The Chicago-based Heartland Alliance operates shelters where children in the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Refugee Resettlement's custody wait to be released to a relative or legal guardian. By Tuesday, 37 of 69 minors were positive, according to a statement."

States ask Supreme Court to reconsider 'public charge'

"New York, Connecticut and Vermont asked the US Supreme Court on Monday to consider temporarily lifting or modifying the implementation of the “public charge” rule due to concerns about COVID-19 and the president’s declaration of a national state of emergency.

The Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to begin enforcing the “public charge” rule in January. Under the rule, an immigrant may be deemed to be a “public charge” if the immigrant is expected to receive any amount of public benefits, including Medicaid, food stamps and housing vouchers, during “more than 12 months in the aggregate within any 36-month period” of the immigrant’s life. Therefore, the plaintiffs argued, the rule is discouraging immigrants from accessing health benefits because they fear if they come forward, it will threaten their eligibility for citizenship."

"The US has expelled more than 6,300 undocumented migrants on its Mexico border using emergency powers to curb coronavirus spread, officials say.

Supplies for coronavirus field hospital held up at U.S.-Mexico border

"(Reuters) - Red tape and rules on importing medical gear have delayed work on a field hospital for migrants in an asylum camp near Mexico’s border with Texas, undercutting efforts to prepare for the coronavirus pandemic, according to organizers of the project.

Mexican authorities approved construction of the 20-bed field hospital on April 2. But since then, a trailer laden with supplies for the project has been parked in Brownsville, Texas, less than a block from the U.S.-Mexico border."
