Hi John,

I don’t know about you, but summer is the perfect time to read! One of my favorite parts about summer is reading on the beach or in the afternoons near the river when I’m out camping. That’s why I’m excited to announce that OLCV will be hosting a summer book club. Together we’ll be reading an environmental themed book that was voted on, share ideas, and make friends! In order to join, you must fill out this sign-up form here, where you’ll be asked to vote on the book we read and our meeting date.

Our book club meeting will take place during the last week of August, between Monday August 26th to Thursday August 29th. The book will be announced after sign-ups close, but here’s the three nonfiction books we are choosing between:

  1. The Intersectional Environmentalist by Leah Thomas: envisions a world where the communities and voices most impacted by environmental injustice have the power, resources, and platforms to lead their communities into full liberation. (208 pages)

  1. Emergent Strategy by adrienne maree brown: explores radical self-help, society-help, and planet-help to shape the futures we want. (280 pages)

  1. Becoming Kin: An Indigenous Call to Unforgetting the Past and Reimagining our Future by Patty Krawec: visits Native and settler history, myth, identity, and spirituality helps us retrace our steps and pick up what was lost along the way: chances to honor rather than violate treaties, to see the land as a relative rather than a resource, and to unravel the history we have been taught. (240 pages)

The deadline for sign-ups is on Friday, July 5th. If you’re interested, please submit the sign-up form now! For those joining our book club, please join our Facebook group here if you’d like to connect before our meeting in August.

I’m looking forward to meeting some fellow readers and OLCV supporters this summer, and learn something together. See you in August!

Sincerely,
Sarah Kline
