The prime minister had to cap his most undemocratic tax hike and now you can jump on board to scrap it completely.

The federal government started experimenting with an escalator tax in 2017. The idea’s simple: the tax goes up automatically every year with inflation. It’s also completely undemocratic because members of Parliament don’t even have to vote on it.

It started the experiment with alcohol taxes and hoped nobody would notice.

But if you let the government get away with automatically hiking taxes on anything, it’s a good bet it’ll start automatically hiking taxes on everything.

Thousands of CTF supporters have been leading the charge to scrap the escalator tax and they’re making progress.

The government planned to increase the alcohol tax this year by 4.7 per cent.

But pressure from thousands of Canadian Taxpayers Federation supporters forced Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to back down. Instead of a 4.7 per cent hike, Trudeau capped the alcohol tax hike at two per cent.

Trudeau shouldn’t be hiking taxes at all. But the pressure from taxpayers reduced the tax burden by $50 million this year alone. And now you can build on that momentum.
