A grid powered by more renewable energy and batteries requires a plan to build and upgrade electric transmission lines, the strong backbone that brings clean energy projects online and serves customers. Last month, the U.S. Department of Energy did just that.

They proposed ten new transmission corridors in areas where the demand for electricity is growing. These areas are also vulnerable to severe weather, putting the community at risk for dangerous power outages.

To fully realize the Inflation Reduction Act's benefits and transition to clean power, we need to at least DOUBLE current transmission capacity by 2030 — that’s fewer than SIX years!

But we need to ensure these corridors are built with the support of nearby communities, protect the environment they’re built in and focus on bringing clean energy projects online.
