Mark McClosky at OCPAC Foundation Published Monday, June 24, 2024 OKLAHOMA HISTORY CENTER 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive, OKC, OK THIS WEDNESDAY In 2020, BLM and other self-proclaimed communist organizations were conducting terrorist operations in the United States. Toward the end of his three-year ministry, Jesus told his disciples to be sure to purchase an assault weapon if they did not already own one. (Luke 22:35, 36)* The 18th Century Lutheran Preacher, Peter Muhlenberg, saw the sword as having a vital role in the defense of liberty. Mark and Patricia McCloskey discovered the 21st century application of the Luke's Gospel passage as they defended their home and their family against rioters. They were met by an onslaught of people intent on destroying elements of fiscal and civic responsibility by penetrating wealthy neighborhoods with their chaotic presence. The McCloskeys were prosecuted and convicted for their actions in the defense of their home, though they never left the inner circle of their property. Their unjust conviction led to a pardon by the Missouri Governor. Better yet, just last week, the misdemeanor convictions were overturned by Judge Joseph P. Whyte. They will be with us this Wednesday to tell their harrowing story of confronting an angry and lawless mob and the media frenzy which followed. * Jesus said to them, "Let the one who has no sword sell his clock and buy one." ~Luke 22:36 Bring a friend!!! BOB LINN The Fight for America's Soul In April of this year Tulsi Gabbard published For Love of Country for the purpose of exposing the Democrat Party’s thirst for power. She suggests a national focus on the God of our founding. Certainly, Tulsi Gabbard is not the same person who ran in 2020 for the nomination of the Democrat Party for President of the United States. After leaving the U.S. Congress on January 3, 2021, her positions on transgender rights, abortion, foreign policy, and border security have transitioned to conservative. She has left the Democrat Party. She opens her book stating: I can no longer remain in a party that abuses its power by leveraging the national security state and law enforcement against their opponents, undermining the rule of law and turning our democracy into a banana republic. She closes the book by asking her readers to help restore America. She says: Join me in choosing to end the downward spiral into darkness that the Democrat elite have imposed on us and our nation. The more important pages of her book are contained in the fourth chapter. In it, she speaks to the fundamental source of the cancer eroding the American people. She states: Those in control of today’s Democrat Party are actively undermining our religious freedom, trying to erase the presence of God from every facet of public life, and are openly hostile toward people of faith and spirituality. Those who want to amass greater power and control over the people see that their first task must be to undermine our trust in God and convince us that we must place our faith in them instead of God. This is the reason why the Democrat elite are so hell-bent on removing God from every facet of our lives. Their goal is to amass greater power and control over us. They are envious of God and see Him as their primary competition their desire to become the Supreme Controllers. This is why they have a vested interest in trying to erase any mention of God in our public life. They want to sideline God because they want to be God. Our founders understood clearly that the stability of a nation is in its Christian foundation. As a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, Patrick Henry, in 1784, wrote legislation with the statement: The wide diffusion of Christian knowledge has a natural tendency to correct the morals of men, restrain their vices, and preserve the peace of society. Our founders had the advantage of ministers who understood that their responsibilities extended beyond the pulpits to the government as well. Rev Thomas Reese, graduate of Princeton and a presbyterian minister, in 1788, wrote this about the fundamental importance of our national identity being tied to the adherence to Christianity: Morality, independent of religion, never existed. ____________ Tulsi Gabbard ties our national identity to the God our founders looked to. She states that restoring God as the center of our national conscience is vital to our national health. "To be antagonistic toward God is to be antagonistic toward the foundation of the freedoms enshrined in our Constitution." ~Tulsi Gabbard, For Love of Country ________ We are working to remove this antagonism from our education in Oklahoma. The Chairman of the OCPAC Foundation, Fr. Stephen Hamilton, wrote these sentiments to Governor Stitt on June 6, 2024. Fr. Hamilton is the chairman of the Oklahoma Advisory Committee on Founding Principles. He writes: In March 2023, the Oklahoma Advisory Committee on Founding Principles (OACPF) formed itself to offer advice to the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) on the general topic of promoting the founding principles and culture of this great nation in our schools. It is entirely uncontroversial to acknowledge that the founding principles of the United States of America have established and enshrined a land of hope and freedom based upon Judeo-Christian values. It is a historical observation. It is also not controversial to promote fidelity to that founding. What’s more, to encourage knowledge about this founding and gratitude for it need not be seen as anything other than historical fact, rather than a zealous religious campaign seeking converts. It is good, healthy, and productive to promote gratitude for the founding principles that guide our country still. Enshrined in those founding principles is the relationship of faith leading to virtue leading to freedom, all of which together helps create a citizenry capable of self-governance. The Declaration of Foundational Values is a profound and necessary step. It acknowledges that education is not just about academic proficiency but about shaping individuals who pursue truth, goodness, and beauty—universal virtues rooted in our Creator's design. By emphasizing that these virtues are objective and attainable, Superintendent Walters is championing a vision of education that forms the mind and touches the soul. This approach aligns perfectly with the ethos of our founding documents, which invoke divine guidance and recognize the inherent dignity of people. When the 2020 candidate for the Democrat nomination for President of the United States writes a book to ask Democrats to awaken to the ruthless power-hungry nature of the party’s core and to articulate the fundamental essential need for a return to God as our national identity, perhaps God is moving to restore the nation's spiritual foundations. I am reminded of the words of our January speaker, Xi Van Fleet, who suffered at the hands of Mao before finding her way to America. She eventually realized that Mao’s revolution had come to America. She is emphatic that America’s great need is a return to her Christian roots. It is not conservatism or morality which will defeat communism. She states emphatically that only Christianity will defeat communism. America’s healing will come as its people abandon secularism and re-establish a national allegiance to God. Our speaker this week made national news by doing something Christian. He employed a weapon to fend off a threat to his home and property. He was not being an antagonistic brute. He was honoring his family and his home. We must all take our place as active participants in a society that without our voice is drifting from God into a chaotic struggle for political power. Bring a friend with you! ______________ Speaking of a spiritual resurgence in our midst: On the heels of the 4th straight National Softball Championship led by the devout Christian, Patti Gasso, was last week's World Championship won by the Boston Celtics.
