11 years ago, the Court tossed out a key part of the Voting Rights Act

Sheldon Whitehouse Senator for Rhode Island

Team,

11 years ago today, the Supreme Court tossed out a key part of the Voting Rights Act, sweeping in a new wave of voting restrictions by allowing Republican-controlled state governments around the country to adopt discriminatory election policies.

Dozens of restrictive voting laws have been passed since the Court’s decision.

With the Supreme Court churning out decisions on a handful of high-stakes cases this week, today’s anniversary serves as a reminder that this Supreme Court was built by dark money to carry out some of the least popular elements of the GOP’s far-right agenda.

With the Senate up for grabs in November, the future of the Supreme Court and Democrats’ work to protect the right to vote are at stake this year.

Will you pitch in $5 to support my re-election campaign so I can clean up this mess at the Court That Dark Money Built? The dark money apparatus that props up our conservative justices is a powerful one, so every dollar you donate makes a difference.

Thank you for your support,

Sheldon
