The VoteRiders team has been hitting the streets, fairs, and festivals all month, ensuring that LGBTQIA+ voters have the IDs they need to vote and IDs that reflect their name and gender identity.

For transgender and nonbinary people whose ID doesn’t match their name and gender, voter ID laws can make the experience of casting a ballot invalidating and intimidating.

With trans rights — and voting rights — under increasing attack, VoteRiders is proud to continually innovate through its voter ID assistance work, ensuring that bureaucratic barriers do not disenfranchise any eligible voters from casting a ballot. For example, i n the growing number of places where people are not allowed to change the gender marker on their state-issued IDs, VoteRiders is working with them to obtain a US passport card: a federally-issued form of photo ID that does allow people to update their gender marker to reflect their identity.

This is an important step toward ensuring trans and nonbinary voters can cast a ballot safely and confidently.
