I have some good news to share with you. Last week, the New York City Council and the Mayor’s Office announced the City would provide $25 million in emergency funding for food providers across the city.
This funding, combined with the $25 million the state has pledged in response to our request for emergency funds, will pay for over 19 million meals. That’s progress.
But more people across our city every day are losing their jobs and facing smaller paychecks. We have to continue to do everything we can to prevent a hunger crisis in New York City.
The bottom line is no one should be food insecure in the richest city in the United States.
Together, this community has stepped up tremendously to help our city in this time of crisis. I know we can do it again.
