For Immediate Release DEFENDING AMERICA FROM POLITICAL WARFARE (Washington, D.C. June 24th, 2024) – Congresswoman Nancy Mace, a key member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, will be asking questions at a hearing titled “Defending America from the Chinese Communist Party’s Political Warfare, Part II.” This hearing is a critical part of the Committee’s ongoing investigation into the Chinese Communist Party’s influence operations in the United States. Background: For decades, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has aimed to infiltrate and influence various sectors and communities within the United States. There is no doubt that the CCP seeks to undermine America and further the destructive goals of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Federal agencies play a significant role in countering the CCP’s political warfare and safeguarding targeted American communities. To effectively combat these threats, Congress must ensure agencies are able to identify and address the CCP’s malign influence operations. While the Biden Administration has been given numerous recommendations cracking down on China, they have hardly taken any meaningful action. This is the second hearing in the Committee’s government-wide investigation into CCP political warfare. Date: Wednesday, June 26, 2024 Time: 10:00 a.m. ET Location: Room 2154, Rayburn House Office Building Witnesses: The Honorable Erik Bethel, Former U.S. Executive Director, World Bank James E. Fanell, CAPT USN (Ret.), Former Director of Intelligence and Information Operations for the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Government Fellow, Geneva Centre for Security Policy Ms. Mary Kissel, Former Senior Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of State, Department of State This hearing is open to the public or can be watched live on Mace.House.Gov/media/hearings For media inquiries, please contact
