John,

Instead of focusing on how we can save lives, increase coronavirus testing, and protect our healthcare workers on the frontlines, President Trump is instead focused on one thing: himself.

This week, Trump went from claiming he has “total authority” over when states reopen, to putting all the blame and responsibility on our governors, to pulling funding from the World Health Organization, and now threatening to send Congress home in the middle of a pandemic if they don’t approve his remaining nominees.

Under the Constitution, the President of the United States has the ability to adjourn Congress during a national emergency, but the power has never before been used by a president in U.S. history. Now, Trump wants to abuse it for political reasons, threatening to put a hold on any new coronavirus relief legislation, like election protections, aid for undocumented immigrants, and more financial help for workers.

We can’t let Trump get away with this while lives are on the line, John.

Will you sign our petition demanding Trump let Congress continue to do its job and focus on fighting this pandemic instead of partisan political games? [[link removed]]

Trump may be the president, but he’s not a king: he doesn’t have “total authority” to do whatever he wants. Together, let’s show him that.
