Hey – it’s Gretchen Whitmer, Governor of Michigan. I’m here today – on the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s unjust ruling in the Dobbs decision – with an important request.

Team, Donald Trump has told his supporters who want to “eradicate” abortion, they will make a “comeback” if he is reelected. That’s how I know he hates what Democratic governors are doing in our states to protect reproductive rights: our success stands directly against everything he values.

Here in Michigan, I’ve strengthened protections for women, IVF, and surrogacy, and repealed Michigan’s extreme anti-abortion laws. Meanwhile, other Democratic governors in states across the country are also fighting like hell to protect abortion – signing legislation to codify abortion rights into state law, stockpiling abortion medication in the midst of Republican threats, and taking executive action to protect reproductive health and veto dangerous abortion bans.

Make no mistake: Donald Trump is proud to be the person who overturned Roe v. Wade. He’s proud that his work puts women’s lives in jeopardy. He’s proud that nurses and doctors could look at prison time for doing their jobs. And he’s proud that loving families could lose access to IVF and the only chance they have at having children.

That’s exactly why we’ve got to do everything we can to respond and fight back so we can elect a government that shares our values, not one that rips our freedoms away. And here’s the thing – we’re supported by grassroots supporters just like you who are as fired up as I am about winning this November and protecting our fundamental rights.

In 2020, Americans came together to elect Joe Biden and defeat Donald Trump and his dangerous and extreme agenda. Now, we need to do it again. But that starts with knowing who will stand with us on Election Day to protect our fundamental freedoms. I’m counting on the support of this team to propel us.
