The Middle East Books and More team is excited to announce that we will be hosting Leila Hasan Awawda, co-founder of the Women in Hebron cooperative, at our bookstore from June 25-27 and July 1-3.
Women in Hebron, founded in 2005, is a Palestinian fair trade nonprofit comprising 150 talented members who create beautiful tatreez embroidery and handicrafts. Their exquisite collection includes tatreez dresses, pillowcases, solidarity items and much more. Not only do these goods provide supplemental income for the members and their families, but the proceeds have also enabled Women in Hebron to establish a community center in the village of Idna.
Leila and her exquisite wares received a rapturous reception during her visit to our store in 2019, and we are confident that you will make her feel just as welcome this year!
This is a unique opportunity for our customers to purchase handcrafted Palestinian goods while supporting the incredible work of Women in Hebron. In addition to the traditional tatreez items, Leila will also be bringing some elusive Hirbawi keffiyehs!
Join us at the bookstore from June 25-27 and July 1-3 to meet Leila, learn more about the Women in Hebron cooperative, and explore the beautiful handmade items on offer. Your support will help continue the impactful work of this community organization, which is more vital than ever.
