Thankful

Through these challenging times, I wanted to take a minute and say thank you – to our local Republican leaders, and every member of our Indiana Republican grassroots team. You work so hard every election year to nominate and elect strong Republican leaders to all levels of government, from the Courthouse to the White House -- and together, we've been successful at winning races up and down the ballot. And I know we'll be successful again this year.

That past work has ensured that we've got top leaders guiding us through these unique times. They're making the difficult decisions at every level to keep Hoosiers safe, and for that we can all be thankful.

Last month, you probably saw that Governor Holcomb made the call that he’d be postponing all campaigning and fundraising, focusing 100% on this crisis. Well, because of your support throughout the years, I'm excited to share that his re-election campaign remains strong with $7.13 million in the bank, while our Democrat opponent can only claim a small fraction of that number. We were only able to post these strong numbers because of your years of support -- and again, for that, we're thankful.

And I'm also thankful going into this weekend. We've got another Super Saturday planned ([link removed][UNIQID]) for tomorrow, and Hoosier Republicans from across the state are signed up to make calls from home, letting voters know about our election updates and that President Trump and Governor Holcomb still appreciate their support.

Thank you for being a key member of our Republican team, and soon enough, I know we'll be back together again fighting for more Republican victories.

Keeping Hoosiers Safe: Coronavirus

Governor Holcomb continues to take action to lead our state during this challenging time.

This week, he announced his plans for a gradual reopening of Indiana's economy! Governor Holcomb has been in constant contact with major industries and associations throughout the state and has asked for their recommendations for the changes they can make that will allow us to return to work safely. After a lot of thought and discussion here are some of the factors that led to setting early May as a potential date for reopening our state's economy:
* Sustained control of the rate of new coronavirus infections and hospitalizations.
* The enhanced ability to test for and trace the coronavirus.
* Sufficient health care capacity to handle a resurgence.
* Continuing to use best practices for social distancing in the workplace.

Election Update: June 2 Primary

Last month, Governor Holcomb announced that Indiana’s primary election is moving to June 2. During this primary, any registered voter has the option to cast their ballot via a mail-in absentee ballot. So far, more than 70,400 Indiana voters have requested their absentee ballot for the primary!

Election Updates:
* Upcoming deadlines – May 4 deadline to register to vote and May 21 to request an absentee ballot.
* Limited early in-person voting will be available for one week, from May 26^th to June 1^st.
* Poll workers are currently required to live in the county they work for. This requirement is waived so long as the voter is registered to vote in Indiana.
* Secretary of State Connie Lawson and the Indiana Election Division will provide counties with training and guidelines on mail handling procedures and personal protective equipment.
* The Commission advises that all public buildings, such as fire stations and school buildings, be available for use for the June 2^nd Primary.
* All absentee ballot applications submitted after December 2^nd will be accepted regardless of excuse given, as long as they are otherwise compliant with Indiana law.
* County election boards may adopt more than one central count location.
* Counties may move a polling location after giving best possible notice to the public.
* Secretary of State Connie Lawson will procure PPE for poll workers and cleaning supplies in all 92 counties with a $7.9 million request from the federal election COVID-19 fund. This will not impact critical care and other medical supply chains.

As we continue to fight the coronavirus, changes have been made to our primary election process, but Governor Holcomb wants Hoosiers to know that we will have a safe and secure election.
2020 Indiana Republican State Convention: Fair & Safe

Earlier today, the Indiana Republican State Committee Rules Committee made a unanimous recommendation regarding the upcoming 2020 Indiana Republican State Convention in June. This recommendation is for the full committee to pass temporary rules to ensure the party can appropriately carry out a convention in away that is fair and safe for all.

Throughout every conversation, the goals have been:
* If at all possible, given the facts on the ground, the Indiana Republican Party’s first goal is to host an in-person state convention as planned on June 20th.
* If the situation on the ground does not allow for some form of in-person voting on June 20th, the Indiana Republican Party is committed to offering a voting option to ensure our state convention delegates are given the best opportunity possible to select our party’s nominees for Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General.

Senator Young: Updates on the Federal Response
In case you missed it, Senator Todd Young joined Governor Holcomb yesterday to provide updates on the federal government's work providing COVID-19 relief for Hoosiers.

His updates included:
* The Small Business Administration reports 23,583 Paycheck Protection Program loans have been approved in Indiana totaling just under $6 billion.
* The first round of individual recovery rebate payments should begin hitting individual bank accounts this week for those with direct deposit information on file with the IRS.
* Working in close consultation with the Governor’s Office, Senator Young has helped secure shipments of masks from China and Taiwan expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
* The U.S. Department of Agriculture will be issuing guidance soon for Hoosier farmers to apply for financial support.
