Dear John,

On June 20, we shared the story of Basanta Adhikari, and how he turned a modest $250 grant into a transformational victory for the people of Nepal.

The grant helped Basanta attend the 2017 Asia Liberty Forum in India, where he made connections that would turn into long-term mentorship and support for his ambitious vision.

That vision became a reality last year when the government agreed to open new motorcycle license service centers, bringing the wait time from a license down from years to weeks and ending years of corruption and harassment for people trying to earn a living.

But how were there so many people in India who Basanta could turn to for guidance to help him achieve this victory?

It’s because for decades, Atlas Network has worked with freedom advocates in South Asia to build strong organizations and partnerships.

In fact, one of Basanta's mentors, an Indian think tank entrepreneur named Parth Shah, first learned about the freedom movement while teaching as a university professor in Michigan more than 25 years ago.

He attended Atlas Network Academy training and was involved with the Mackinac Center, an Atlas Network partner organization in Michigan.

Parth was so inspired by what he learned that he returned to India in 1997 to establish an institution that could share the ideas of freedom just as the Cato Institute, the Mackinac Center, and many others do in the U.S.

Over the course of a generation, Parth's Centre for Civil Society has recorded numerous landmark victories for free enterprise and individual rights in the world's most populous country, from advancing school choice, to repealing outdated bureaucracy, to protecting the economic freedoms of entrepreneurs and property owners.

Parth was then able to pass his knowledge and experience along to newcomers like Basanta, who eventually won greater freedom and dignity for the people of Nepal.

Atlas Network is a network of like-minded advocates who understand that collaboration and sharing knowledge are the keys to bringing ambitious visions to life – visions that can change the lives of millions of people.

But this is only possible because of the generosity of our donor community.

Please consider joining Atlas Network by sending your first gift today, and help us continue building relationships that expand free enterprise all around the world.

Thank you,

Tom G. Palmer,
Executive Vice President

P.S. Atlas Network is less than a week away from the conclusion of our end-of-quarter fundraising drive. We’re looking for 100 new friends to join Atlas Network for as little as $10 per month. Please send your first gift before the end of June, and one of our most generous donors will match it and double your impact. Plus, if you send a monthly, recurring gift, our donor will match it each and every month for a full year, up to his personal limit. Thank you again!
