The Supreme Court issued a life-saving decision in U.S. v. Rahimi—reversing the
Fifth Circuit's dangerous ruling that would allow domestic abusers to be armed
and confirming that abusers subject to restraining orders DO NOT have a
constitutional right to own guns.
John, access to a gun makes it five times more likely that an
abusive partner will kill a woman. So this latest Supreme Court decision
is a major gun safety victory for survivors of domestic abuse.
But we should never have been here in the first place.
Recognizing that survivors of domestic abuse should be protected from gun
violence is a bare minimum expectation.
Whether domestic abusers have a constitutional right to have guns
shouldn't have been a question to begin with. So as millions of survivors
of domestic violence breathe a sigh of relief, we should remember who put
them in jeopardy.
This happened because extremist lower court judges appointed by Donald
Trump prioritized the gun lobby's agenda and abusers over survivors'
lives.
[ [link removed] ]So we need you to commit to voting against gun extremists in November.
We never should have gotten to this point—and another Trump presidency
would mean more extreme judicial appointments that deliver dangerous
decisions that will put more and more lives at risk.
Because the gun lobby and gun lobby-backed extremists cannot—and will
not—be the arbiters of the lives of women and families across the country.
Extremist judges who are willing to endanger countless women's lives have
no place in our courts. [ [link removed] ]So let us know if you'll vote in November to
prevent more extremist judicial appointments.
While we celebrate this win for gun safety, we know there is more work to
be done. Our movement is strong because of our collective determination in
our fight to end gun violence—and that includes turning out to the polls
to elect lawmakers who will end this crisis.
Thank you for all you do.
